Another Craft. Behemoth Mamma
This is pretty much the biggest thing I ever made.
It's about 3.5 feet long. It cracked under it's own weight, and used
almost every piece I had. Almost. This continued on my phase of
making huge cavernous craft capable of holding many things, including
minifigs, vehicles, spacecraft, and more. This went a couple steps
further & added a lunch room, conference room, and large central bay.
It was so big, to get the right distance away I had to take it outside.
I tried my hand at home photography on this one, using a camera older than
dirt, and developing the pictures myself. Why I used the worst
journaling techniques with my crowning achievement is beyond me.

Side View This thing looks like crap from the
side. Nuff said. And yes, it was extremely back heavy. |
 |
|
Bottom View Here you can see the bottom.
Obviously, the 4 tractor tire wheels on the outside weren't enough to
hold this thing up (it sagged in the middle), so I incorporated
bulldozer treads. You can see a pair of them under the wings, in
between the widest part of the craft.

Top View From here you can see the entire
thing, except for the back bay. which apparently exceeded the focal
capacity of my camera.

Top View, bay doors open Here's the money shot.
You can see almost everything here. Let's explore, shall we?
From front to rear, here's what comprises this craft:
 | The front is ripped right off the Galaxy Commander. |
 | Directly behind it is the research lab. Computers,
benches, and a exploratory arm holding a girder are viewable.
The floor also opens to allow the articulating arm to hang out the
bottom. |
 | Then there's the midsection, broken into 3 sections. At
the top of the picture is the mess hall, complete with cabinets.
stove, and walking room. |
 | Under that is a bay to hold the SuperGun, which was actually a
spring-powered missile launcher tied with string to a hinge. I
think that's all that's in there, but it seems just way to big for
just that. |
 | On the bottom is the Briefing room, where about 6 guys & 1
presenter could present the day's agenda. |
 | Last is the vehicle bay, which miraculously got cut out of the
picture. |
|
 |
|
Bottom View This is just a close-up of the
bottom. The floor under the Lab breaks into 2 pieces & swings
open so the arm (the wavy worm-looking thing) can hang out the bottom.
I suppose this is handy in case a ship the size of Nebraska has to
hover 5 feet over the surface & collect a dirt sample.
You can also see the treads a bit better. |
 |
|
Vehicle Bay This is where vehicles can get
loaded into the rear. 3 or 4 small vehicles, or 2 small craft,
or 1 large craft could fit inside. |
 |
|
On-board Craft This is the little craft that
can fit inside. Meant to be an excursion craft, it has room for
one guy, and storage compartments on the outside. There is room
enough in the Rear Cargo Bay for 2 of these. |
