ES1-4: 70W & 4 speakers

ES1-4: 70W & 4 speakers

Various part numbers:
AMP1: 12800531
AMP2: 12800532
ES1 (LHD): 12799716
ES1 (RHD): 12799717
ES2 (LHD): 12799722 or 12799718 depending on country.
ES2 (RHD): 12799719
ES3 (LHD): 12799720
ES3 (RHD): 12799721

There are many different radio options, primarily made up of 2 options: number of speakers (4, 7, or 13), and system wattage (70, 150 & 300). There are 3 different faceplates (ES1, ES2 & ES3). For some silly reason, Saab names them all very confusingly:
ES1-4, 70W: Saab Audio System
ES1-7, 150W: Saab Infotainment System
ES2-7, 150W: Saab Infotainment System upgrade
ES2-13, 300W: Saab Infotainment System upgrade
ES3-7, 150W: Saab Infotainment System upgrade
ES3-13, 300W: Saab Infotainment System upgrade
ES4-7, 150W: Saab Infotainment Plus with Navigation and AVR
ES4-13, 300W: Saab Infotainment Plus with Navigation and AVR

Then they name the different levels based on the amps as:
Premium 70 Sound System (ES1-4)
Premium 150 Sound System (ES1-7, ES2-7, ES3-7, ES4-7)
Prestige 300 Sound System (ES2-13, ES3-13, ES4-13)

Number of speakers:
4 speakers: There are 2 speakers in the outer edges of the dashboard and 2 in the outer edges of the parcel shelf.   (shown in the picture)
7 speakers: The 4 speakers above plus 2 speakers in the front doors and a center speaker in the dashboard.
13 speakers: The 7 speakers above plus 4 speakers all in the back parcel shelf (2 treble & 2 bass), and 2 more treble speakers in the dashboard.
You can see the position & relative size of the different speakers in the picture.

System wattage:
70 watts: The only amp in the vehicle is integrated into the entertainment head unit (EHU).
150 watts: In addition to the EHU amp, there is an 80 watt amp under the left-hand seat (AMP1).
300 watts: In addition to the EHU amp & AMP1, there is a 150 watt amp in the trunk on the left side (AMP2).
The amp(s) are the black rectangles in the picture.

Faceplates:
ES1 is the base model with no screen, just buttons. Spartan, efficient, clean (shown in the picture).
ES2 is the mid model and has a monochrome green screen, and a telephone keypad.
ES3 is the top level and has a wide-screen color display.
With these combination, Saab markets 8 different audio systems. For instance, Great Britain offers all 8 as options, but most countries offer only 3.

Upgrades:

The upgrade from 70->150 includes AMP1, the center dash speaker, 2 door speakers, and associated hardware. Watts go from 70 to 150, speakers go from 4 to 7. ES1 remains. A Tech2 change is required.  Download instructions for Sedan & Convertible.

The upgrade from 150->300 includes AMP2, 4 treble speakers, 2 bass speakers, and associated hardware. Watts go from 150 to 300, speakers go from 7 to 13. ES1 or ES2 remain. A Tech2 change is required. In order to do this upgrade you must first complete the

70->150 upgrade.

Download instructions for Sedan & Convertible.

I think you can mix & match different speaker packages, amps, and faceplates. For instance, you can have an ES1 with 300 watts & 13 speakers.

Lastly I should mention that it has been said that any of the sound systems offered above, or available with the car, are less than stellar. With that in mind, you may wish to do some of the upgrades using components you source yourself. I will not go into these, as it can be a whole website in and of itself, but you can find tons of info by asking folks at Saabcentral.com.
What I will say is that there are 2 main changes you can make. You can tap an existing amp to drive another powered amp, and you can change out the speakers. Many have had great success with these options. The reason these are almost the only options available to you is that the vehicle employs a MOSTnet system of optical data transmission instead of traditional analog signal transmission. All the amps are on the MOSTnet bus, as is the head unit. Unless you get a compatible MOSTnet amp or headunit, you will not be able to swap these out.
