This is a handy little feature where you don't have to lock your glovebox. In 2003 when there were only SS sedans, there was a non-locking, push-button style opening mechanism. In 2004 when the Sport-convertible came out, they introduced a locking glovebox. For some reason, as of 2005, they haven't commonized yet. I can only guess that the reason for this disparity is that if you have a convertible with the top down and thus no intrusion alarm, you can lock something up in the glovebox.

This option gives a neater appearance, however, the rubber coating on the button doesn't seem to be robust and after repeated use will begin to flake & peel off.

Remove the old decor strip from the car. You HAVE to remove the glovebox, but it's not hard. There are 5 screws. 3 inside, and 2 on the outside bottom. Unplug the A/C hose & lights & get it out of the car.

Look on the decor strip mechanism black plastic cylinder. There's a hole in the center. In the vehicle, there's a screw that will go into it. Take one of the glovebox screws & pre-thread the hole, removing the screw when done. Trust me, it will help.
Now, get a flashlight & look for where that screw would be in the car. It's hard to see, and even harder to get to. Remove that screw. Then push out the attachment clips from the inside of the glovebox. The old decor strip will pop right out.

Then, do just the reverse to fit the new one. You're good to go. Remember the screw with the washer is for the middle inside slotted hole. Other than that, all screws used are identical.
