This is how you would see it if you were in the
trunk)

This item is found in the
US and Canada only. Pictured to the left is an
emergency escape handle for if you find yourself in the
closed trunk of your car, and wish to escape. It
is made from florescent plastic, and may glow in the
dark if exposed enough to sunlight. The handle
should be pulled downward towards the floor, releasing
the locking mechanism. The lid can then be opened.
Why is this here? And why only in the US &
Canada? Because the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration (NHTSA)
made it mandatory for all new vehicles in the United
States to be equipped with a trunk release inside the
trunk by January 1, 2001.
T.R.U.N.C. has more info.
I will refrain from commenting on the government's
decision regarding this issue. Suffice it to say
that this is a safety item, and being a conscientious,
safety-minded regulatory-bound auto manufacturer, Saab
has complied.
If you would like to install this in your vehicle,
