replacement info for the existing covers.
All 2003+ 9-3s have a cabin air filter. At the
beginning of the 2003 model year, there were 2 kinds of
cabin air filters. A Particle air filter & a Combination
filter. Here are their descriptions:
Particle air filter: The fibres in the
particle air filter stop larger particles but must rely
on an electrostatic charge to trap smaller particles.
Because of the electromagnetic charge, the filter
attracts particles much in the same way as a magnet
attracts metal filings.
Combination filter: A combination filter is
available as optional equipment. The fibres in the
particle air filter stop larger particles but must rely
on an electrostatic charge to trap smaller particles.
Because of the electromagnetic charge, the filter
attracts particles much in the same way as a magnet
attracts metal filings. Besides removing all visible
particles, the filter removes particles such as pollen,
plant spores and different types of dust from the cabin
air. The active charcoal in the filter reduces the
concentration of hazardous substances such as benzene
and toluene.
The Particle filter was used on Manual Climate
Control (MCC) vehicles, and the Combination filter was used on
Automatic Climate Control (ACC). For some reason, use of
the Combo filter was discontinued in all vehicles. If
you should wish to replace your filter with the other,
here is some information. No Tech II change is
required.
