This is the rear seat cupholder. In some market is
is offered as an options (like Great Britain), and in
some markets it just comes standard with the vehicle
(like the US). This options is not available for
the Convertible.
While I haven't done this mod or know anyone who has, it
seems pretty straightforward. The seat cushion
contains 4 ingredients: trim (the colored leather part
your butt feels), foam with embedded wires, round
staples (which hold the trim to the foam), and maybe a
cupholder.
So if you want to do this mod per the factory, you will
need new trim, foam, and a cupholder. You can use
zipties instead of the small staples, as you need a
special tool to fasten them.
If you don't have truckloads of money just lying around,
I believe there is a better way. The only
difference in the trim is that there is a hole cut out
where the cupholder goes. Actually, instead of a
plain hole, you can make it neater by not cutting as
much out, and folding the edges over inside.
In either case, you will need the actual cupholder, and
most likely the foam, since I think it was specific
attachment points for the cupholder. But all you
have to do is take the trim off your cushion
(remembering where all the staples are of course!), and
attach it to the new foam (with cupholder inserted).
You can see what the bottom is supposed to look like
here.
Basic installation instructions can be found
here.
This is really just how to install the actual plastic
cupholder, but helpful nonetheless. Removing the
actual cushion is very easy. Simply grasp the
bottom edge & pull up. They are held in with 2
metal loops. Install the cushion in reverse.

advice/experience, please email me! |
