This is the rear seat center headrest. Some
markets include this as an option (like Great Britain),
and some just don't even offer it (like the US). If you
have a third occupant in the rear seat traveling with
you frequently, this may come in handy.
While I haven't done this mod or know anyone who has, it
seems pretty straightforward. The seat cushion
can be broken down into 4 ingredients: trim (the colored leather part
your back feels), a metal back plate, plastic headrest
sleeves, and the headrest itself. The center
headrest is not the same as the side ones. The
posts are shorter to accommodate the small space above
the armrest. The entire rear seat is split into 2
parts: the 40% side (the smaller one one the right), and
the 60% side (the bigger one on the left, which contains
the center section).
There are no holes in the leather for a headrest, but
there are provisions for it. To understand how it works,
think about it. The headrest posts slide into a plastic
sleeve which fits into a metal tubes welded to the metal
back board. Right now, they are filled with a removable plug.
So if you want to do this mod per the factory, you will
need new trim, headrest sleeves, headrest trim &
headrest foam/structure.
If you don't have truckloads of money just lying around,
I believe there is a better way. The only
difference in the trim is that there is a hole cut out
where the headrest goes. The headrest guide tube covers
the opening. You can refer to the other headrests
as it is mounted the same way.
In either case, you will need the headrest trim,
structure, and 2 guide tubes.
Basic installation instructions can be found
here.
