This option is a handy convenience if you want to
keep an eye on your tire pressure without having to
actually get out and physically measure all four dirty
wheels. It tells you when each specific tire is:
Low - Pressure is 0.3 bars (4.4lbs/sq-in) below nominal
Puncture - (pressure is 0.6 bars (8.7lbs/sq-in) below
nominal
The system adjusts nominal pressure according to tire
size & ambient temperature, both of which are values the
car knows.
The system is active 30 seconds after the car reaches
30km/hr (19mph), due to centrifugal switches in the
sensors. That is why the system will only work when
moving. The car figures you don't need to know the
pressure when resting, and it saves battery life.
In a nutshell, the way it works is that the sensors in
the 4 tires transmit info to 4 detectors, and these
detectors send their info wirelessly to the single
control module. The module decodes all 4 signals, and
determines what fault code to send to the vehicle. This
code is translated to English & displayed on the SID.
Typically found in 2003 & 2004 Aeros, this options was
deleted in 2005, but I don't know why. It could be due
to a large number of false positives from the system.
Many people have learned to distrust the TPM system.
This option is mated to the 17" wheel (which 17" wheel I
don't know).
So in addition to the required parts listed, you MAY
need new 17" wheels, and wire harnesses.
